The Principles of Cultural Intelligence framework is designed to teach participants to assess cultural forces, manage cultural gaps, and increase overall effectiveness within any culture. Culture permeates all relationships and interactions at a personal, interpersonal, and organizational level. The Cultural Intelligence workshop for Japan is specifically designed to foster understanding and synergy between the Japanese and other cultures. Unlike traditional cultural awareness training, Principles of Cultural Intelligence does not focus on the differences in cultures or the “customs” that need to be followed in a particular country. It provides participants with the knowledge and tools to recognize cultural issues and work with culture to produce better results. This is accomplished in part by helping individuals understand how their own culture influences their own behavior and values.
The Principles of Cultural Intelligence training consists of a combination of assessments, training, and coaching sessions tailored to meet your organization's needs. Individuals that understand culture and develop the ability to work with it instead of against it, cultivate the ability to get work done better and get along better with anyone anywhere. They become what we call Globally Effective.
There are six key steps participants progress though in the workshop.
Mapping and assessing your culture can illuminate the prevailing behaviors and managerial styles found in the organization. A corporate culture map of your organization substantially enhances your ability to understand, interpret and work towards changing (if desired) your culture and managerial styles towards a more effective model. This will also help you understand how "Culture" is affecting behavior and performance within the organization.
Employees examine their own cultural norms (we are the product of many different cultures) and compare their individual cultural tendencies with company culture and determine a fit. This process can be used at the individual level to formulate a personal "cultural" action plan to increase personal performance and effectiveness within the company culture or as part of a new employee orientation or management training session.
Organizations can greatly benefit from expanding the mapping assessment to individual departments and/or international operations. Understanding these different cultures can lead to finding better ways to manage the "cultural gaps" that often exist and lead to lost revenue, staff turnover, miscommunication and other costly problems. A cultural problem analysis worksheet is available to help groups work through issues and discover new and more effective ways to get the forces of culture to work for them instead of against them.
The Principles of Cultural Intelligence provides the framework to assess the current culture, design the ideal or preferred organizational culture for your company, and facilitate a cultural change through company workshops, executive coaching, and organizational activities.
The Principles of Cultural Intelligence workshop is perfectly positioned to be used as an international cultural awareness program for both local employees and expatriate employees of your company and your subsidiaries around the world. Employees that attend this workshop will learn to view themselves and others in a new way and come away with an understanding of how culture impacts behavior. Further they will develop a personal action plan to increase their effectiveness in their current international assignment or in working with the "foreign" head office or management.
